Think of your brand elements as a cohesive story that communicates to your target audience who you are and what you do.
In order to do this well, the first step is to solidly understand who you are and what you do 🙂Â
These questions will help us get there.
Basic Elements of a Brand:
- Your brand name & logo
- Your tagline / slogan
- Color palette
- Fonts / typography
- Brand personality
Think of this as your “voice” or the “vibe” for your brand. - Brand positioning
Think about what makes you different from competitors. Sometimes referred to as your USP (unique selling point).

Company/Organization Information
- How would you describe your company/organization?
- Do you have a mission statement?
- What is your company/organization’s core message? Is your message clear and focused?
- What is your story? What is your history?
- How would you describe your services and/or products? (Try to use adjectives)
- What benefits does using your product/service provide your clients?
- What are the core values and principles your brand should express?
- Who are your direct competitors?
- How are you different from your competitors? What sets you apart?
- What is one thing would you like your brand to be known for?
- What key message(s) do you want to communicate in everything you put out there?
Target Audience
- Who is your current target customer base? Who will be purchasing your product/service?
 – Parents, managers, frequent travelers, community donors, business owners, gardeners, procurement officers, etc.
 – Age, gender, socioeconomic status, lifestyle, location, etc. - Who is your dream/ideal target customer? Are there any audiences you aren’t currently reaching that you want to reach with your brand?
- How would you want them to describe you? How wouldn’t you want them to describe you?
- How do you want to make your customer feel?
Social
- Are you giving our customers something to talk about?
- Do you give customers an opportunity to get involved?
- Are you making it easy for customers to spread the word?
Goals & Motivation
- If you already have branding in place…What do you like about your current brand? What don’t you like?
- If you already have branding in place… Why do you want to rebrand? What do you want your new brand identity to accomplish?
- What is your brand’s mission?
- What are your short and long-term goals?
- What are the long term goals of your company/organization? Where do you see your brand in 1 year? 5 years? 10 years?
Competitors
- Who are your main competitors?
- Do you think they do a better job than you? How so?
- How are you different from your competitors?
Branding Inspiration
- Do you have any specific imagery in mind for your brand?
- Do you have any specific design preferences? (Such as color or font)Â Do you have any thing specific you do not wish to be used in the design?
- What adjectives should best describe your brand?
Budget or luxury? Approachable or formal? Masculine or feminine? Bland or colorful? Edgy or conservative? Fun or serious? Trendy or cassic? etc… - What feeling or message do you want your brand to convey to those who view it? How you want people to feel when they see your brand?
